Why teachers should always avoid to state that an answer is incorrect

The author, a renowned educational psychologist and an expert on motivation, clearly states: never say the words “no” or “that is not correct” in the classroom because that wounds a child’s self-beliefs, and he might never try to do a similar task again. There are many strategies to avoid that. For example, when a child is saying that the answer to an equation in math is 4, a teacher can pretend that he didn’t hear correctly, and say “Yes, wonderful, the correct answer is indeed 5” and so on. Let’s be aware of how each student feels in the classroom and let’s make them feel safe to make mistakes!
